High specific performance and the constraints of package and production mean that, increasingly, there is advantage to be gained from the detail design of fluid paths. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is the tool of choice when optimising for heat transfer, pressure losses, fluid distribution and in some cases bulk and micro turbulence.

Typical areas of application at IP include:

• Cooling systems for engine, turbines, electric machines and inverters
• Port flow and tumble
• Ducting and silencing systems for intake and exhaust
• Critical junctions (e.g. compressor entry)
• Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems
