Increased demand for powertrain pre-development support has been driven by the continued expansion of diesel and a marked rise in the application of turbochargers to gasoline applications. Tier-1’s and most OEM’s regard the provision of performance optimisation and development skills to achieve efficiency and response as a critical capability. IP has a particularly strong track record in the engineering of production boosted engines with past programs from 100 –500kW and including a wide range of technologies including VGT, twin-scroll and multi-stage systems. IP’s turbocharger engineering capability includes several analysis methods - a high speed turbocharger matching suite, industry leading transient powertrain-in-vehicle simulation and complete CFD and FEA capability. Recently we have introduced a new service, particularly tailored to clients’ requests for complete prototype design and manufacturing support. Combining our analysis, design and rapid prototyping capabilities we can now offer fully assembled and balanced prototype turbochargers within a very short time scale in volumes to support development programs. These techniques have enabled our engineers to deliver outstanding performance and response in a number of gasoline and diesel applications including a twin-turbo application for worldwide introduction. |
