powertrain control
Today's powertrain control systems include advanced
ECU functionality, multiple interfaces with other
vehicle systems, sophisticated control strategies
and advanced sensors and actuators. Alongside ever
more stringent emission legislation for both
gasoline and diesel, these demands drive a
requirement for well documented process and the use
of the latest tools for DoE and model based
calibration. IP's range of robust and effective
solutions for engine calibration have been proven on
numerous OEM production programmes. Our techniques
support client demand for compressed timing, very
high quality solutions and reduced testing
requirements for minimum cost.
IP's testing facilities include a vehicle emission
test facility, jointly owned with Tickford
Powertrain Test. The emission facility includes
independent Horiba modal analyser systems for
gasoline and diesel, and mass particulate
measurement systems. The facilities have been used
on many of IP's production sign off programmes for
EU5/6 and ULEVII, and are regularly correlated with
client facilities. Cold ambient (eg -7 C) soak
development tests can also be conducted within the
facility.
IP also carries out engine and vehicle
instrumentation for calibration and other programmes
at its main Milton Keynes site, where there are also
static cold chamber facilities. Engine dyno test
facilities leased from our testing partners are used
for engine mapping, including motoring and transient
cycle development.
